We rebuild Wix websites as Astro sites, using content and images you are entitled to reuse. Wix states that a site must run on its own servers, so there is no whole-site export to host elsewhere. The new front end is built fresh, and we choose with you where its content will live.

02Order

Follow this order before any code is written

Wix stays the source of truth until the new site is approved. This path keeps the rebuild tidy:

List each page type and the Wix features it depends on.
Confirm which text, images and files you are authorised to reuse.
Export every CMS collection that holds structured content as a CSV file (a spreadsheet-style file).
Choose where content will live in Astro: files in the project, or a headless CMS (a separate editing screen that supplies content).
Pick a replacement for each Wix-hosted function.

A Wix-hosted function is anything that runs on Wix's own services rather than in the page itself. Astro builds the pages, so these need a new answer.

04Export limits

Know what Wix lets you take

CMS collections can be exported as CSV, covering entire collections or filtered items. Wix says exporting blog posts to other platforms is currently not possible, so posts are copied or recreated, and we recheck that claim before relying on it. Wix says a store cannot be moved to another site, though a product list can be exported and imported into a new Wix store. It does not describe a route to other platforms, so we plan a store as its own job.

We do not reuse Wix page designs. The new layouts follow the look of your live pages, rebuilt as Astro components (reusable page parts).

05Testing

Test the rebuild against the live Wix site

We keep the Wix site running and compare it side by side with a private copy of the new one. We open one page of every type, one item from each collection, each form, a copied blog post and the menu. We check images for descriptive text and view each page on a phone.

An editing trial follows. Someone on your team changes content and we confirm how the live site updates.

06Domain

Connect the domain after approval

Wix's help describes connecting a domain to an externally hosted site, and it treats the domain and hosting as separate concerns. So the Wix site stays live while we build, and the domain settings change at launch.

We prepare and test a redirect map (a list sending visitors from each old address to its new one), pointing each directly at its final address. Redirects stay for as long as practical, and we monitor search performance without promising it will hold. Website Migration Services covers the wider process.

Questions about moving Wix to Astro

Can Wix export my site for Astro?

No. Wix says a complete working site cannot be exported and hosted independently, and we found no tool that exports page designs for Astro.

Does Astro replace the Wix editor?

No. Astro builds the site but does not edit content. We choose an editing method with you before the build.

What if Wix functions have no replacement?

Then we say so during the audit. Each function is replaced, rebuilt, or removed with your agreement.

Can I reuse the images from my Wix site?

Only those you are authorised to reuse. You confirm that before we download anything.
