Website Maintenance Services

Website maintenance keeps a working website up to date, secure and backed up, with clear responsibility for each part. Webzstore offers it as website care covering updates, security, SSL support, backups and assistance if a site is hacked or infected with malware.

What website maintenance can cover

Maintenance is the routine work that keeps a website working after launch. What applies to your site depends on an assessment of its platform, hosting and access. Website development covers building or redesigning a custom website; maintenance looks after one that already exists.

02Choose

Choose what you need help with

Select one part, several parts or the whole care arrangement. The plan you see is a starting point for the call, not a quote.

Where this startsOur website needs updates, security and backups, but we are not sure who is responsible for the hosting, the logins and each task.

Choose one part, several parts or the whole project
  • Review of the platform, hosting and domain arrangements
  • Backup schedule, retention and restore planning for websites hosted on Webzstore servers
  • Update and compatibility checks for the agreed software
  • A written record of who manages each part and who holds each login

Check first: Which parts of website care already exist elsewhere and which are missing.

Next: Bring your website address, your host and your domain details.

    • Confirm where the website is hosted and who holds the hosting login
    • Check whether it is hosted on Webzstore servers, where backups are taken every other day (every day for busy or store sites) and kept for 30 calendar days
    • Record who holds the domain and who can change its settings
    • Plan how a restore would be requested and checked, without promising its outcome

Check first: Whether the website is hosted on Webzstore servers or somewhere else.

Next: List your host, your domain registrar and who currently holds each login. Discuss the selected work and agree the scope before implementation.

    • List the platform, plugins, themes and other software the site uses
    • Check each update against the rest of the site before it is applied
    • Agree which updates are routine and which need your approval
    • Review content and security updates for the website we agree to manage

Check first: Which platform the site runs on and who can log in to it.

Next: Send your website address and note which platform and plugins you know it uses. Discuss the selected work and agree the scope before implementation.

    • Bring updates, security, SSL support and the backup schedule into one agreed scope
    • Agree who manages hosting, accounts and domain tasks
    • Agree how a malware or hacking problem is reported and how we assist
    • Write down what stays your responsibility

Check first: Which parts of the website you want us to manage and which stay with you or another provider.

Your web address, held by whoever registered it.

03Manage

Agree what we manage

Use this checklist on the call to separate who does what.

Domain name

Who is responsible

You, where it is registered in your account; Webzstore, where we administer it under the agreed care

What to confirm

Who renews it and who can change its settings

Hosting

Who is responsible

Webzstore, where the site is hosted and managed by us; otherwise your current host

What to confirm

Where the site is hosted today and who holds the login

Updates

Who is responsible

Webzstore, for the website and software we agree to manage

What to confirm

Which software is covered and which updates need your approval

Security, SSL and malware or hacking assistance

Who is responsible

Webzstore, for the managed website

What to confirm

What is checked and how you report a problem

Backup schedule and retention

Who is responsible

Webzstore, only for websites hosted on Webzstore servers

What to confirm

Backups are taken every other day as standard, and every day for websites with high traffic, many form submissions or an online store; they are kept for 30 calendar days

Transfer assistance

Who is responsible

Webzstore, on request

What to confirm

What moves, who holds each login and what is agreed before a transfer

Security work reduces avoidable exposure. It cannot make a website immune to problems, and we do not promise round-the-clock monitoring or response.

04Updates

Updates and compatibility checks

An update can change how a plugin, theme or the core software behaves, so we treat each one as a change to check.

  1. Confirm who has access to the site and which backup you could return to before the update starts.
  2. List the platform version, plugins, themes and other software in the agreed scope.
  3. Read each update's notes and check it suits the rest of the site.
  4. Apply the updates in a planned order, then test the main pages and forms.
  5. Tell you what changed and what is waiting.

WordPress's own documentation advises backing up before an upgrade and checking the backup is usable, and warns that older plugins and themes may stop working after one. We plan updates around that.

05Backups

Backups, access and recovery planning

Where a website is hosted and managed by Webzstore, we take backups every other day as standard, and every day for websites with high traffic, many form submissions or an online store. Backups are retained for 30 calendar days. A backup is not a promise that a restore will succeed or take a set time. If the site is hosted elsewhere, this schedule and retention do not apply, and we agree with you what the host provides.

  1. Recovery planning means deciding in advance who asks for a restore, which date is wanted and what to check afterwards, such as the main pages and forms.
  2. We also record who holds the domain, hosting and administrator logins and how a handover or transfer would work, so a change of provider does not lock anyone out. We assist with malware or hacking problems but cannot promise a particular outcome.

Common questions

What information do you need to assess maintenance?

Your website address, the platform it uses, where it is hosted, who holds the domain and hosting logins, and any problems you know about. We assess the site before agreeing the scope.

Can you maintain a website you did not build?

That depends on an assessment. We check the platform, the installed software and who has access, then tell you what we can manage and what needs work first.

How often are backups taken, and how long are they kept?

For a website hosted on Webzstore servers, we take backups every other day as standard, and every day for websites with high traffic, many form submissions or an online store. Backups are kept for 30 calendar days. A restore is not guaranteed.

Who owns my website and who can access it?

You own your website, code and content. While we manage a site we normally hold its logins and carry out updates for you, and you can ask for access or to move the site elsewhere. The details are in the agreed care terms.
