Choose what you want to change

Choose the destination, the catalogue, the storefront or the records and addresses you want to keep, or plan the complete store move. The plan is a starting point for your free 30-minute call, not a quote.

Where this startsOur online store no longer does what we need, and we are not sure whether to change platform, rebuild the storefront or move only some of it.

Choose one part, several parts or the whole project
  • Review of the problem and the destination choice
  • Catalogue mapping and sample transfer
  • Storefront build and connected systems
  • Customers, orders and redirects
  • Final switch plan and checks after launch

Check first: What the new platform must do that the current one cannot.

Next: Share your current store address and the platform you have in mind.

    • List of the problems the move must solve
    • Comparison of Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce against your needs
    • Check of which features need development or replacing
    • Route page that matches your current platform

Check first: Whether a smaller fix on the current store would solve the problem.

Related: Shopify Development, WooCommerce Development, BigCommerce Development

Next: Write down the three things your current store cannot do.

    • Check of the exports your current store offers
    • Mapping of options and variants to the destination's limits
    • Sample transfer with a difficult product included
    • Batching plan for large catalogues and later edits

Check first: How your products and options are stored today.

Related: Magento to Shopify Migration, PrestaShop to Shopify Migration, Volusion to Shopify Migration

Next: Send a simple product and your most complicated one.

    • Review of the current theme and apps as requirements
    • Replacement or custom build for each needed feature
    • Product groups, menus and filters planned around shopper search
    • Test of product choice, basket, payment and delivery

Check first: Which features customers actually use.

Related: Shopify Development, Ecommerce Website Design

Next: List your apps and mark those you could not trade without.

    • Customer file prepared for the destination
    • Plan for new sign-in steps, since passwords are not assumed to move
    • Decision on how much order history stays available
    • Redirect map from old addresses and a monitoring plan

Check first: Which old addresses bring visitors and which records you must keep.

    Related: Ecommerce SEO, Ecommerce Management

Next: Share how far back orders must go and your most visited pages.

In plain terms

Variant
One buyable version of a product, such as a size and colour pair.
Redirect
An instruction that sends visitors from an old address to the new one.
Catalogue
The full set of products, options, images and categories in your store.
Collection
A group of products shown together on a Shopify store, such as a category.

02Route

Choose your route by what limits the move

Each direction has its own page because the receiving platform and the data mapping change the work. If you are unsure about the destination, share your requirements first and we will compare what your team manages with what would need developing or replacing.

WooCommerce, Shopify or BigCommerce

Routes we plan

Moves between any two, either way, such as WooCommerce to Shopify

What shapes the work

Extensions and apps to replace, and how product options map across

Volusion

Routes we plan

Assessment of moves to and from WooCommerce and Shopify, such as Volusion to Shopify

What shapes the work

Exports come one table at a time; product rows may omit child variations

Magento (Adobe Commerce)

Routes we plan

Magento to Shopify

What shapes the work

Child products of a configurable product become variants; attribute sets have no direct equivalent

Wix Stores

Routes we plan

Wix Stores to Shopify

What shapes the work

Products with more than three options lose them in Shopify's importer; reviews cannot be exported

Squarespace

Routes we plan

Squarespace to Shopify

What shapes the work

Reviews cannot be exported; orders need extra tools

PrestaShop or OpenCart

Routes we plan

PrestaShop to Shopify or OpenCart to Shopify

What shapes the work

Combinations and options need mapping; neither is a source for Shopify's migration app

03Scope

Find out what is actually moving

A platform change can be worth considering when the current store cannot support an important requirement, though it can create work that a smaller fix would avoid. We first review the problem: difficult catalogue updates, missing functionality, an unsuitable editing experience or an outdated connection.

  • Part of the store

    Products

    Migration question

How will options, images and categories map?

  • Part of the store

    Customers

    Migration question

Which records can transfer, and will accounts need a new sign-in process?

  • Part of the store

    Orders

    Migration question

What history needs to remain accessible, and where?

  • Part of the store

    Content and URLs

    Migration question

Which pages need equivalents and redirects?

  • Part of the store

    Subscriptions and apps

    Migration question

What needs a replacement or separate transfer process?

  • Part of the store

    Integrations

    Migration question

Which systems must reconnect before trading resumes?

We inspect available exports and destination requirements before confirming a method. Passwords, payment credentials, subscriptions and app-specific records are never assumed to move with a standard product import.

04Catalogue

Plan a large catalogue in layers

A large catalogue changes how the work is organised.

Products versus variants

Shopify allows three options and 2,048 variants per product, so long variant lists are checked per product.

Batching

Shopify's product file cannot exceed 15 MB, so bigger catalogues are split across several files.

Changes after the sample

edits and orders made after a sample transfer need a catch-up plan.

Search and filtering

menus and filters follow how shoppers look for products.

Inventory connections

each system that reads or writes stock is tested.

05Test

Rehearse before switching

A sample migration reveals problems while the current store is still available. We review representative products and records, then test the buying journey and connected workflows. Any item that cannot transfer as expected needs an explicit alternative.

  1. We also rehearse the decision to go live. Before the switch, your team names who can decide to pause or reverse it, which is usually the person who owns trading for the store, and what would trigger that decision, such as failed test orders, wrong stock or a broken checkout. Webzstore reports what the checks show, and that person decides. The old store stays untouched and trading-ready until the new one is approved, because reversing the switch depends on it.
  2. After the switch, orders and stock changes can arrive on either store while the old one is kept as a fallback. We agree which store is the record at each point, list the orders and stock changes made since the last check and compare them with the other store, so that nothing is counted twice or lost. Backups and export files made during preparation are not an operational rollback plan: restoring them would not bring back the orders and stock changes made after they were taken.

06Launch

Protect the routes customers already use

Blue arched bridge between two islands with an arrow sign and a traffic cone

We record important existing URLs, map their destinations and test the relevant redirects (instructions that send visitors from an old address to the new one).

  • Search visibility can change during a migration, and no transfer can promise that rankings or traffic will stay the same.
  • Monitoring helps identify problems after launch, and Ecommerce SEO can support that work.

Questions before getting started

Will everything look exactly the same?

Not necessarily. Themes and applications do not automatically transfer. We agree what to preserve and what to redesign.

Can the current shop stay open during preparation?

Preparation can be separated from the final switch. The arrangement depends on the systems, order activity and transfer method.

Can Shopify's own migration app move any store?

No. The app lists a set of source platforms and does not list Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart or Volusion, so those routes use other files and tools.
