Shopify to Volusion Migration

We move Shopify stores to Volusion when Volusion meets a requirement your current store cannot, and we check that fit before any data moves. Shopify exports a tidy product file, but your theme, apps and checkout set-up have no direct copy in Volusion.

Before we confirm the work, we review what Volusion supports today and what your customers and team would face on the day of the switch.

01Choose

Choose what you want to change

Pick one area, several, or the entire project. You will see a tailored outline to bring to the call; it is not a quotation.

Where this startsSomething about Shopify no longer works for us and Volusion might fix it, but I need to know what I would lose or have to rebuild.

Choose one part, several parts or the whole project
  • Fit check against your main requirement
  • Product, option and child product transfer
  • App replacements and storefront rebuild
  • Customers, order history and late changes
  • Redirects, switch and early monitoring

Check first: Whether Volusion supports the requirement behind the move.

Next: Share your store address and the reason Volusion is under consideration.

    • Write down the one requirement behind the move
    • Test it on Volusion with a real product
    • Compare it with fixing the current Shopify store
    • Record anything Volusion cannot do for you

Check first: What Shopify fails to do for you today.

Next: Describe the requirement and send a link to the product that shows it best.

    • Export products with variants and images
    • Regroup variant rows into option and product files
    • Generate child products and compare them with variants
    • Load the file in small batches

Check first: Which products use all three Shopify options.

Next: Send a product export and name your most complex product.

    • List every installed app and what it does
    • Match each one to a Volusion feature or tool
    • Rebuild layouts and menus in Volusion
    • Recreate discount codes and shipping rules

Check first: Which apps hold records you must keep, such as reviews.

Next: Send your app list and mark the apps that bring in revenue.

    • Export the customer list and plan how customers sign in
    • Confirm whether past orders import or are archived
    • Record changes made after the sample
    • Test redirects and monitor search performance

Check first: Which order history your team still needs to look up.

Redirect
An instruction that sends visitors from an old address to the new one.

02Decide

What does your Shopify store need on the Volusion side?

Start with the requirement that makes you consider leaving. If Shopify can meet it more simply, that is worth knowing before a move adds data, design and operating decisions.

  • If your Shopify store has

Products with up to three options

    Then plan for

Volusion option records, with child products generated for each combination

  • If your Shopify store has

Variant images and several images per product

    Then plan for

Re-attaching pictures product by product after the import

  • If your Shopify store has

    Reviews, subscriptions or loyalty apps

    Then plan for

A Volusion feature or connected tool, and a way to take out the app's records

  • If your Shopify store has

A Liquid theme (Shopify's template code)

    Then plan for

A rebuilt Volusion design, not copied files

  • If your Shopify store has

    Discount codes and shipping rules

    Then plan for

    Recreated and tested by hand

03Transfer

Reshape the product file for Volusion

Shopify's product CSV file lists one row per variant and repeats the URL handle on each row. Volusion's import tool reads CSV, TAB, PIPE and XML files, one table per file, so we regroup the rows into separate product and option files rather than uploading Shopify's file as it stands.

  1. Volusion then generates child products afterwards through a maintenance function, so we compare the finished combinations with your Shopify variants. We ask you not to edit products or option values in Shopify while the project runs, so the file we export stays the same as the store. Shopify's own guidance warns that changing the option value columns in a CSV import deletes existing variant IDs and creates new ones, which can break anything that depends on those IDs, so we do not re-import changed option values into Shopify. Volusion advises splitting very large imports into smaller batches, and we follow that.
  2. Customers and orders need their own decisions. We do not assume passwords can move, so we plan with you how customers sign in on the new store. Whether Volusion accepts past orders as records, or they are kept as an archive file, is confirmed before we promise either.

04Test

Test the requirement that started the move

The most useful sample proves that Volusion solves your problem. That might be a product configuration, an admin task or a connected workflow. We test it inside the whole buying journey, so one passing check cannot hide a broken one elsewhere.

The sample also needs a three-option product, a product with variant images, a discounted item and a test order. Your team then tries the daily tasks they rely on, such as editing stock and processing an order.

05Launch

Control the changeover

Keep Shopify trading until Volusion is approved. We record price, stock and product edits made after the sample and re-check them before the switch, so late changes are not lost.

Your Shopify addresses follow a fixed pattern, with products under one path and collections under another. We prepare a redirect map (a spreadsheet pairing every old address with its replacement), confirm how Volusion applies redirects and test samples before launch. See Ecommerce Management for running the store afterwards. After the switch we watch search performance, without promising where it will land.

Questions about Shopify to Volusion

Is this a standard automatic migration?

No. We make no automatic full-transfer claim. We assess current source access, Volusion's support and your requirements before confirming a method.

Can Shopify apps move with the products?

Not automatically. App functions and app-held records need separate review, because a product import does not reproduce those services.

Will my Shopify variants become Volusion child products?

Usually, after the option records are set up. We check that every combination, SKU and price arrives as expected.

What if Volusion does not fit?

We explain the mismatch and consider another approach, such as Shopify to BigCommerce. The assessment exists to avoid a move that cannot support an essential requirement.
