BigCommerce to WooCommerce Migration

We move BigCommerce stores to WooCommerce, the shop plugin for WordPress, by mapping your products, customers and orders and then building the new shop around how you actually trade. It is a catalogue move and a WordPress build in one project, so we assess both before agreeing a method.

We start with your reason for moving, then list what BigCommerce can hand over and what the new shop must be rebuilt to do.

01Choose

Choose what you want to change

Pick the parts of the BigCommerce move you need help with, or ask for the whole thing. You will see a draft plan to bring to the call.

Where this startsOur shop is on BigCommerce and we want it on WooCommerce, but I do not know what moves, what gets rebuilt and who runs it afterwards.

02Decide

Which shop setup fits your reason for moving?

Different reasons lead to different builds.

  • If this is true

The shop should live inside an existing WordPress site

    What we plan

Review the theme, hosting and plugins first, then add the shop to that build

  • If this is true

You want closer control over how the store behaves

    What we plan

Decide which behaviour uses standard settings, extensions or custom development

  • If this is true

You rely on BigCommerce apps at checkout or in the catalogue

    What we plan

List each app by the job it does, then choose a replacement or a rebuild

  • If this is true

Your team already edits pages in WordPress

    What we plan

Agree who edits products, orders and pages, with the right access for each person

  • If this is true

    Updates and backups worry you

    What we plan

Name who is responsible for hosting, updates and backups before launch

03Transfer

What comes from BigCommerce and what we rebuild

Before any build, we confirm which export routes your BigCommerce plan and installed apps actually offer. We do not assume one file holds everything.

  1. Products and images: titles, descriptions, SKUs, prices and image files are mapped to WooCommerce fields.
  2. Options: a BigCommerce choice such as size or colour becomes an attribute (the choice a shopper makes) and a variation (one valid combination, such as a blue medium, with its own SKU, price and stock).
  3. Apps that change buying: reviews, wishlists, bundles and quote forms are rebuilt or replaced, not copied.
  4. Customers and orders: we agree which records staff must be able to read and which must exist inside WooCommerce.
  5. Design: the BigCommerce theme is a reference only. The WooCommerce theme is built or adapted for WordPress.

04Test

Test a difficult product and a full purchase

A clean file import proves little. We pick the product with the most options and the awkward rules, such as a variation that is out of stock or a shipping rule for part of the range. We check that every combination shows the right price, image and stock level.

Then we place one full test purchase from product page to paid order, using the payment provider's test mode, and read the confirmation email and the order screen exactly as staff will.

05Launch

Plan addresses, accounts and the switch

BigCommerce product and category addresses will not match WooCommerce paths by default. We prepare a redirect map (an instruction sheet pairing each old address with the right new page) and test it on a copy of the shop first.

Customer passwords are not assumed to move, so account holders may need to set a new one, and we plan that message with you. Orders placed during the build are caught up before the final switch. Once live, we watch search performance and trading problems; rankings may move and we do not promise they will hold.

Questions about BigCommerce to WooCommerce

Can the shop sit inside our existing WordPress site?

Yes, after we review the site's hosting, theme and plugins. Those details decide how much preparation the shop needs.

Will our BigCommerce apps carry over?

No. Apps are not copied. We list each one by the job it does, then decide whether WooCommerce settings, an extension or custom work covers it.

Will customers keep their passwords?

Not automatically. We confirm what the export routes allow at project start and plan how customers return to their accounts.

Can product URLs stay the same?

It depends on the address structure the new shop uses. Where an address changes, the redirect map points it to the closest new page.
