01Choose

Choose what you want to change

Pick the move that matches your problem, or combine several. The outline you see is for discussion and is not a price.

Where this startsOur WordPress site needs to change host, split off from a bigger setup or lose its page builder, and we want to stay on WordPress.

Choose one part, several parts or the whole project
  • Audit of host, plugins, builder and site structure
  • Test copy of the site
  • Template rebuild where a builder is replaced
  • Representative page and form checks
  • Switch, redirects and a short handover

Check first: Which of the three problems applies to your site.

Next: Share the site address, the host and the builder or network details.

    • Copy the files and database to a test copy
    • Review each plugin on the new server
    • Test logins, forms and search before the domain changes
    • Update the domain settings on launch day

Check first: Who controls the domain and the current hosting account.

Next: Send the current host, the plugin list and the domain registrar.

    • Decide which route fits: network extraction or WordPress.com move
    • List what the export file does and does not carry
    • Copy media and users that the file leaves out
    • Reinstall the plugins and theme the site relies on

Check first: Whether the site lives in a network or on WordPress.com today.

Next: Tell us where the site runs now and which parts must stay.

    • Sort pages into a few template types
    • Check what visitors see with the builder switched off
    • Rebuild layouts as native templates
    • Test every template on phone and desktop

Check first: Which builder you use and whether a Pro licence is current.

Next: Share links to one page of each type that the builder made.

02Decide

Which WordPress move matches your problem?

Three different problems are often called "a WordPress migration". They need different work, so name yours first.

  • Your problem

The host is slow to respond, limited or being closed

    The move it points to

A hosting move: copy the site as it is to a new server

  • Your problem

One site sits inside a network of sites and needs to stand alone

    The move it points to

A separate site extraction, covered on our multisite to single site page

  • Your problem

The site is on WordPress.com and you want your own hosting

    The move it points to

A move to self-hosted WordPress, covered on our WordPress.com page

  • Your problem

Pages built with Elementor or Divi are hard to edit or update

    The move it points to

A page-builder replacement with native WordPress templates, covered on our Elementor to blocks and Divi to blocks pages

  • Your problem

You are leaving WordPress for another platform

    The move it points to

A platform departure, handled by Website Migration Services

03Transfer

Why WordPress's own export is not a hosting move

WordPress has a built-in export, but it is not a complete backup.

  • It leaves out settings and options, the design, themes and plugins, and the actual media files, keeping only their addresses.
  • So a hosting move copies the files and the database together instead.
  • We then check what the copy contains before the old host is touched.

04Rebuild

Replacing a page builder takes a rebuild, not a switch

  • Builder

    Elementor

    What the vendor documents

A site kit can export content, templates and settings, but it is meant for backup and reuse. If a Pro subscription lapses, Pro sites cannot be edited.

  • Builder

    Divi 4

    What the vendor documents

Elements are stored as shortcodes (short bracketed codes), and they show on the page if Divi is switched off

  • Builder

    Divi 5

    What the vendor documents

Uses block-style storage. What shows when Divi is switched off is not confirmed, so we test it

  • Builder

    Other builders

    What the vendor documents

Checked one by one on a copy of your site

This is why we treat builder layouts as clean-up or rebuild work. Our Elementor to WordPress Blocks Conversion and Divi to WordPress Blocks Conversion pages cover each builder, and our WordPress Website Design service builds the replacement templates.

05Test

Run the old and new site side by side

We build and test on a copy first, with the live site untouched.

  • The checks cover logging in, your forms and where their messages arrive, a purchase or booking if you take them, search, and each page type on a phone.
  • Plugins are reviewed one by one, because a plugin that works on the old host may behave differently on the new one.
  • A short list of what changed since the copy is prepared, so nothing posted in the meantime is lost.

06Launch

Switch the address with a clear plan

On launch day the domain settings (the records that tell the internet which server hosts your site) are changed.

  • If page addresses stay the same, no redirects are needed.
  • If they change, we prepare a redirect map (a list pairing each old address with its new one) and test it.
  • We monitor search performance after the switch and make no promise that it will stay the same.

Questions about WordPress moves

Can the WordPress export file move my whole site?

No. It does not include your design, themes, plugins, settings or the actual media files.

Will my Elementor pages survive if Elementor is removed?

Not confirmed. We check a copy of the site with the builder switched off before deciding whether to clean up or rebuild.

Will my site go offline during a hosting move?

We plan to keep the current site live while the copy is built and tested. We agree the switch time and the final update with you in advance.

What if I want to leave WordPress altogether?

That is a platform departure, so start with our Website Migration Services page.
