PrestaShop to Shopify Migration

We move PrestaShop stores to Shopify by working out how your products, combinations, categories, languages and customer records fit the new store. Shopify's Store Migration app does not list PrestaShop as a source, so the transfer is planned from files and agreed tools rather than started with one button.

Webzstore assesses your store, plans the transfer and builds the Shopify side.

Choose what you want to change

Pick one part, several parts or the whole move, and see a plan to bring to your free 30-minute call. It is a starting point for discussion, not a quote.

Where this startsOur PrestaShop store has products with many size and colour choices, several languages and a few modules, and we want it running on Shopify.

  • Review of products, combinations, languages and modules
  • Sample transfer and agreed fixes
  • Shopify storefront build
  • Customers, orders and redirect map
  • Stock and order connections, then launch checks

Check first: Which products and modules would be hardest to recreate.

Next: Share your store address and the modules you cannot do without.

    • Test export of products, combinations and categories from your store
    • Decide which attributes become options and which become variants
    • Handle products with more than three attribute groups
    • Check each language as its own set of records
    • Prepare image and stock fields for the Shopify import files

Check first: Which of your products have the most attribute choices.

Next: Send three product addresses, including the one with the most choices.

    • List what each module adds to the buying journey
    • Choose a replacement app, a custom build or retirement for each
    • Build the theme, menus and collection pages
    • Test product pages, basket and checkout on phone and desktop

Check first: Which modules shoppers actually notice on the site.

Next: List your installed modules and mark the ones you could not trade without.

    • Customer and address files prepared with the required Email column
    • Customer sign-in tested in the chosen Shopify account mode
    • Choose how order history is moved or kept viewable
    • Redirect map from old product, category and information pages
    • Search monitoring plan for the weeks after launch

Check first: How much order history you need to keep and where.

Related: Ecommerce Migration Services, Ecommerce SEO

Next: Tell us how far back orders must go and who needs to view them.

    • List every system that reads or writes stock or orders today
    • Plan how each one connects to Shopify
    • Follow a stock change from the sample transfer to each system
    • Run a test order through payment, shipping and notifications

Check first: Which system holds the true stock figure today.

Next: Name the warehouse, courier and accounting tools connected to your store.

In plain terms

Combination
One buyable version of a PrestaShop product, such as a size and colour pair.
Variant
Shopify's name for a buyable version of a product.
Collection
A group of products shown together on a Shopify page.
Redirect
An instruction that sends visitors from an old address to the new one.
Customer account mode
Shopify's setting for how customers sign in. Current accounts use a one-time code sent by email instead of a password.

02Decide

Map each PrestaShop record to a Shopify decision

A combination is one buyable version of a product, such as a size and colour pair. PrestaShop's Import tool treats combinations as a separate entity from products, so we map the two side by side.

  • In PrestaShop

    Product with combinations

    Decision for Shopify

Which attributes become options (three per product) and which pairings become variants (2,048 at most)

  • In PrestaShop

Product with four or more attribute groups

    Decision for Shopify

Merge values, split the product or hold the detail elsewhere

  • In PrestaShop

    Category tree

    Decision for Shopify

Collections (groups of products), menu levels and filters

  • In PrestaShop

    Each shop language

    Decision for Shopify

Import runs one language at a time, so each is checked separately

  • In PrestaShop

    Module data

    Decision for Shopify

Replacement app, custom build or retirement, module by module

  • In PrestaShop

    Customers and addresses

    Decision for Shopify

Imported by file with an Email column; sign-in tested in the chosen account mode

03Transfer

What arrives as data and what is rebuilt

PrestaShop documents exports for categories, customers and orders, and its Import tool lists combinations, brands and suppliers among its entities. It does not confirm a product-list export that includes combinations, so we run a test export from your own store before choosing the method.

  1. Shopify advises importing products first, then customers, then orders. Historical orders go through a migration app, Shopify's order tools or an outside specialist in its partner programme, and staff notifications are planned around the import.
  2. Your theme and modules are rebuilt through Shopify Development. Stock and order workflows, such as warehouse, courier and accounting connections, are listed and reconnected one at a time before trading resumes.

04Test

Test the product with the most combinations

We test with your hardest records, not the easiest.

  1. A product with many combinations: price, stock code, image and stock level per variant.
  2. A product with text in more than one language.
  3. A category several levels deep, as a collection, menu entry and filter.
  4. A stock change made after the sample transfer, followed to every system that reads stock.
  5. A test order through basket, payment, shipping and the order email.
  6. Customer sign-in in the chosen account mode, tested with an existing customer.

05Launch

Switch over, redirect old addresses and hand over

We list your important old product, category and information addresses. A redirect (an instruction that sends visitors from an old address to the new one) is prepared for each and tested. Shopify's redirects only work from addresses that would otherwise show a not-found error, so we check each one.

We plan for orders and stock edits made after the sample transfer and agree who watches the first orders after launch. We monitor search performance afterwards, though no move can promise that rankings stay the same. See Ecommerce Migration Services for the wider process.

Questions about moving PrestaShop to Shopify

Can Shopify's migration app import from PrestaShop?

No. Shopify's Store Migration app does not list PrestaShop as a source, so records move through files and agreed tools.

Will my combinations arrive as Shopify variants?

Not automatically. Shopify caps products at three options and 2,048 variants, so each product is checked against both.

Does one product export give me everything?

It may not. PrestaShop's documentation does not confirm a product-list export that includes combinations, so we check what yours produces.

Can customers keep their passwords?

No. Shopify states that passwords cannot be migrated by file. Current Shopify accounts sign in with a one-time code sent by email rather than a password, so we agree the account mode with you and test how existing customers sign in.
