WordPress to Wix Migration

We move WordPress websites to Wix when your team wants to manage a hosted site builder instead of a self-managed WordPress install. The work has three parts: bringing over your posts and pages, rebuilding the design in Wix, and finding a Wix answer for each plugin your site relies on.

Webzstore assesses the current site first, so you know what will come across and what will be recreated before you commit to the move.

01Choose

Choose what you want to change

Choose the part you need help with, or combine several. We will show a plan that matches your selection, and you can change it before the call.

Where this startsWe want a hosted builder instead of running WordPress, but we do not want to lose our posts or the plugin features customers use.

  • Assessment of content and plugins
  • Blog and media handling
  • Page and design rebuild in Wix
  • Plugin task replacements
  • Domain, redirects and launch checks

Check first: Whether Wix can cover every plugin task you cannot drop.

Next: Share your site address and the list of plugins you use.

    • Export the posts, categories and tags from WordPress
    • Download the media library before the site changes
    • Check which route Wix accepts for posts
    • Copy or recreate posts that cannot be imported

Check first: Which posts are worth keeping and how many have images.

Next: Tell us roughly how many posts you have and where the images sit.

    • Pick the pages that matter most to visitors
    • Recreate layouts, menus and footers
    • Match fonts, colours and key images
    • Review the result on phone and desktop

Check first: How closely the new look must match the old one.

Next: Send links to your home page, a service page and a blog post.

    • List every active plugin and what it does
    • Compare each task with what Wix offers
    • Scope a replacement where Wix has no direct match
    • Move any online shop through the ecommerce route

Check first: Which plugins customers or editors rely on every day.

Next: Export or screenshot your plugin list from the WordPress admin.

    • Find where the domain is registered
    • Plan the order of the domain steps
    • Build and test a redirect map
    • Keep the WordPress site live until approval

Check first: Who has login access to the domain registrar.

02Decide

Which WordPress plugin tasks need a Wix answer?

Each plugin does a job your visitors may rely on. We list the jobs first, then compare them with what Wix offers at the time of the project.

  • Task on your WordPress site

    Contact and quote forms

    Question to settle on Wix

Which Wix form replaces it, and does it reach the same inbox?

  • Task on your WordPress site

Listings built from custom post types

    Question to settle on Wix

Can a Wix content collection hold the same fields?

  • Task on your WordPress site

    Events, bookings or memberships

    Question to settle on Wix

Is there a built-in Wix feature, or a separately scoped replacement?

  • Task on your WordPress site

    Shop built with WooCommerce

    Question to settle on Wix

Move it through the ecommerce migration route

  • Task on your WordPress site

    Page titles and descriptions

    Question to settle on Wix

How are they set again in Wix, page by page?

A custom post type is a content type of your own in WordPress, such as team members or properties.

03Transfer

Treat the blog import and the page rebuild as separate jobs

The WordPress export file is an XML file. It carries posts, pages, categories, tags, comments and custom fields, but not your theme, plugins, settings or the media files themselves, only links to them. So the posts can be handled as content, while the pages must be rebuilt by hand in the Wix editor. We confirm which route Wix accepts for blog posts when the project starts. Download your media library separately, and keep the WordPress site public until that is done.

Wix must also host the finished site on its own servers. Keep a copy of your content for your own records.

04Test

Check a post, a page and a form on a phone

We choose a long post with images and categories, a landing page with several sections, and one form.

  • Each is compared with the original on a phone and on a desktop.
  • We also test the menu, the footer links and any embedded video.
  • If some pages work better on WordPress, WordPress Website Design is the option to compare.

05Launch

Connect the domain and the new addresses

Your domain and your site hosting are separate concerns.

  • A domain registered elsewhere can be connected to a Wix site, and it can be pointed away from Wix later.
  • We agree the order of steps so the WordPress site stays live until the Wix site is approved.
  • We then build a redirect map (a lookup list that forwards each old WordPress address to its Wix page), because your post and page addresses may differ on Wix.
  • Check search performance after launch.
  • Our Website Migration Services page explains the wider process.

Questions about moving WordPress to Wix

Will my WordPress plugins work on Wix?

No. Plugins are WordPress software. Each plugin task needs a Wix feature, an add-on or a separately scoped replacement.

Can the blog move over automatically?

Not automatically. The export file brings the post text and links, but the route into Wix is checked first, and some posts may need copying by hand.

Will the new site look the same?

It depends on how closely you want to match it. The design is rebuilt in Wix, not imported, so we agree the key layouts first.

Can I keep my domain?

Yes. A domain registered elsewhere can be connected to a Wix site. We confirm the registrar details at the start.
