Google decides which verification methods are available for each Business Profile, and you cannot choose or change the method. Video verification is one of the options Google may offer (the others include phone or text, email, a live video call and a postcard). It is not required for every business. Google's help page says that if your business is eligible for video verification, it recommends using it. If your profile offers it, you need to follow Google's requirements closely, because a video that misses any of them is not accepted. Below are the three things Google says your video must show, followed by the rules for recording and uploading it. This guide is based on Google's help pages as checked on 3 October 2026.
1. Your location should match your Business Profile location or service area.
Example: street sign, nearby businesses, surrounding area
2. Your business name and category should match your Business Profile.
Example: business card, branded vehicle, business tools or equipment
3. You're authorized to represent this business.
Example: unlocking branded vehicles, operating online business tools, proof of address
What exactly to show depends on your business type. A storefront or hybrid business shows its location, permanent signage with the matching business name, and something only staff can access, such as a cash register or storage room. A service-area business shows street signs or landmarks at its address, its tools or equipment, and proof it manages the business, such as performing a service or opening a branded van.
Recording and upload rules
- Record the video live, in one go. Google asks for an unedited, unique and complete recording with no breaks, and does not accept pre-recorded footage or a video recorded offline and uploaded later.
- The video must be at least 30 seconds long.
- Record and upload it from a mobile device through your Business Profile, using Get verified and then Business video.
- Do not show bank account, tax or ID numbers, other private information about you or others, or other people's faces.
- Google says its review can take up to 5 business days. If the video is not accepted, Google shows the reasons and you can record a new one that includes everything from the first video plus what was missing.
- You can delete the video from your Business Profile's advanced settings; if you do not, Google deletes it later.
A business that operates online only, with no in-person service, is not eligible for a Business Profile and cannot be verified. If video is not offered for your profile, follow the method Google shows you instead.
