Google My Business is now known as Google Business Profile (GBP). The video above was made under the older name and may show an older interface, so follow the written steps and Google's current help page. This guide was checked against Google's Business Profile Help article Add, edit, or remove users on your Business Profile on 3 October 2026.

Which roles can you give?

Google currently describes two access levels for people on a Business Profile:

  • Owner: full control of the profile, including adding and removing users and removing the profile. A profile can have more than one owner, with one of them as the primary owner.
  • Manager: can manage the profile but, in Google's words, cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.

"Site manager" was the former name of the Manager role, so it is no longer a separate third choice. Only current owners can invite new owners or managers. Give each person the least access they need: for most helpers, such as an agency, an employee who posts updates or answers reviews, Manager is enough, and you stay in control of who has access.

1. Open "People and access" for your profile

Sign in with a Google Account that is an owner of the profile and open your Business Profile (for example by searching for your business name while signed in, or through the Business Profile Manager at google.com/business). Google's help gives the path as More > Business Profile settings > People and access. If you manage several profiles, make sure you have the right one open.

The interface can differ. Google shows Business Profile controls in more than one place (on Search and Maps, in the Business Profile Manager and in the mobile app), and menu names and positions change from time to time. If you do not see these exact labels, look for the profile's settings menu and the "People and access" or similar section, and use Google's help article for the current wording.

2. Select Add and enter their email address

Select Add and type the email address of the person you want to invite. Use an address that is linked to a Google Account. Google notes that you cannot add Google Groups as owners or managers, so add individual accounts.

3. Choose Manager as the access level

In the access options, choose Manager (or Owner, if you really intend to give full control). Remember that managers cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.

4. Send the invitation

Select Invite. The person receives an invitation and can accept it to become a user. Google says that if they accept, you will get an email.

5. Wait for them to accept

The person must accept before they have access. Until then they appear as invited, not as an active manager. If the invitation does not arrive, ask them to check spam and that the address is the right Google Account, or send it again.

Google also states that new owners and managers have to wait 7 days before they can use some profile features, including deleting or undeleting the profile, removing other users and transferring primary ownership. If someone deletes their account within the first 7 days, they are removed from the profile.

6. Review who has access from time to time

Return to People and access to see everyone with access. Owners can change a person's access level (select the person, choose Edit next to Access, pick the new role and save) or remove them. A person can also remove themselves by selecting their own name and choosing to stop managing the profile; a primary owner must transfer primary ownership first. Remove access when someone leaves your business or finishes working with you.

Make sure you trust everyone you add. A manager has almost the same day-to-day control as an owner, including editing the information customers see, even though they cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.
