Squarespace to WordPress Migration

We move Squarespace websites to WordPress using the export file Squarespace provides for the content it covers, then rebuild everything it leaves out. The file holds selected content, not your full design, so galleries, store products and media each need their own check.

03Transfer

Inventory galleries, products and media as three lists

Do not treat these as one job.

A gallery is a page type to check, a product catalogue needs its own plan through the ecommerce migration route, and media files are the pictures and documents behind both.
How products and orders can be exported from a Squarespace store is not confirmed, so we check the current options with you.
The design is a new build in WordPress, and our WordPress Website Design service covers it.

04Test

Make sure the images actually moved

Squarespace warns that when the file is imported into self-hosted WordPress, images may arrive only as reference links.

Those links stop working when the Squarespace site is deactivated.
So we download and upload the images into the WordPress media library, then check that no image still points to the old site.
Videos and audio, which do not export, are recreated alongside this.

05Launch

Leave the old site running until the last check

We keep the Squarespace site active while we compare page by page.

We open each gallery, a blog post with comments, the main menu and every form.
A redirect map (a list of old addresses, each paired with where it should now lead) is tested before the domain is switched.
The domain is managed apart from the Squarespace site, so we agree the order of steps in advance.
Search performance can move after launch, so it needs watching.

Questions about moving Squarespace to WordPress

Will my design come across?

No. The export covers selected content, not your style settings or custom CSS (the code behind custom styling), so the design is rebuilt.

Will my images work after the move?

Not automatically. They may arrive as links that break once the Squarespace site is deactivated, so we upload them into WordPress.

Can my online store move with this file?

No. Store pages and product blocks do not export. Products need a separate plan.

Will my unpublished drafts move?

No. Drafts are not included, so publish or copy them before we start.
